Surprise Visit From Joe

Had a surprise visit from Joe the other day.

Surprise Visit From Joe
Joe

Joe is our late dog. Well, actually, he was our oldest grandson’s dog, but Joe grew to be too big for their little house, so he came to live with us. He was always Dillon’s dog, though, jumping and dancing whenever Dill came over.

A friend of ours who lives in Chicago, but used to visit every year or so, and who thought Joe was one handsome fella, emailed us this picture he had taken of Joe in his prime.

What an unexpected pleasure, to come across a picture of a loved one. It’s like a visit from the Beyond. Some people find that sad or creepy, but, like Alice Cooper, I love the dead. MomGoth, much?

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: A character come across a photograph of a loved one she or he has been long parted from, through death or otherwise.

In scrolling through old photos, we were recently reminded of our previous dogs. Those photos instantly transport you to a movement with a loved one. Joe was a cutie!

Joe was goofy, but very cute. He never got over believing he was a lapdog, even when he was as big as we were. And he and #4 Daughter’s black half-Persian cat were best buddies. 🙂
